Причина заболевания — мутации в гене МВТР. Поражение органов дыхания — основной фактор, определяющий прогноз, смертность, качество жизни и инвалидизацию больных. Генетическое обследование детей Чувашии с муковисцидозом показало, что 53,5% хромосом больных — носители мутации Е92К. С точки зрения генетической эпидемиологии муковисцидоза, чувашская национальность является уникальной, т.к. именно здесь распространенность «этнической» мутации E92K почти в 2 раза превышает частоту самой известной, «тяжелой», мутации в мире — F508del. Значительное доминирование E92K определило клиническую картину муковисцидоза в исследуемой группе, поскольку E92K это т.н. мягкая мутация. Ключевым моментом в лечении данной патологии является воздействие на вязкость мокроты.
